Glyn Evans, Corporate Director of Business Change, Birmingham City Council
With Martha Lane Fox having been confirmed as the UK Digital Champion and the recent launch of her Manifesto for a Networked Nation, the push to get people online and to deliver services digitally has been given renewed energy. Yet there remain real cultural and practical barriers to meeting the ambitions set out in the Manifesto, barriers that do not just affect those groups that have been traditionally ‘digitally excluded’.
This session will therefore address key issues in digital public service delivery, including:
· What are the broad opportunities offered not just by the internet, but by emerging technologies such as social media and iPhone applications?
· How can we most effectively secure the benefits of digital service delivery, such as channel migration? What are the cultural as well as practical changes we need to encourage, including amongst public service users?
· How can we best handle the potential conflicts in areas such as trust, security and privacy that digital service delivery can engender?
