Accenture

Venue:
Accenture, Fenchurch St, London
Theme:
Managing the workforce at a time of radical change

The theme for the group will be best practice in managing the civil service workforce at a time of radical change. The ambition to implement major spending cuts this year will make workforce issues a major concern for the new Government. It is therefore a timely moment to address how any changes in the workforce can best be managed and the impact on citizens and service users minimised.

Drawing on a range of departmental practices and approaches, this session will address questions such as:

  • How can departments genuinely transform their ways of working and what does this mean for staff?
  • How can we ensure our most vulnerable customers are not adversely affected by any changes?
  • How can morale and productivity be maintained during a period of rapid change?
  • What new skills will be required, particularly if more services are to be delivered online and in partnership with other public service bodies?
  • How can departments ensure they retain the right staff and don't lose their best people?
  • What are the implications for Civil Service HR policies and functions?

Change

Change will only be successful if you take most people with you. It is important to engage and give feedback to people, even if their concerns cannot always be resolved. A positive vision is as important as a ‘burning platform’.
